Tips to Make Your Espadrilles Last Much Longer
1. Alternate between pairs
Giving your shoes a break between wears helps extend their lifespan and prevents moisture build-up or unpleasant odors.
2. Avoid direct heat
If your espadrilles get wet, let them air dry naturally in a well-ventilated area.
Avoid intense sunlight or using a hairdryer, as it can deform the material.
3. Wear thin socks the first few times (optional)
If it’s your first time wearing them, thin socks can help prevent chafing and make it easier for the shoes to mold to your feet without discomfort.
4. Use the right products for each fabric
Use cleaners and protectors that are suitable for each material (canvas, cotton, leather, suede, etc.). Always test on a small area first before applying it all over.
5. Be careful on wet or rough surfaces
Espadrille soles made from rope or natural materials can be delicate. Avoid walking on wet, rough, or highly abrasive surfaces.
6. Protect against splashes
You can apply a light mixture of white glue and water to the soles and sides to improve their resistance to moisture. Always test on a discreet area first.
7. Let them air out after wearing
After each use, leave your espadrilles in a well-ventilated place for a few hours before storing them. This helps prevent odors and keeps them fresh.
8. Gentle and careful cleaning
Use a damp cloth or a soft-bristle brush to remove dust and dirt from the surface. If needed, clean them with warm water and mild soap, but do not soak them.
9. Avoid the washing machine
Espadrilles are not designed for intense washing. The washing machine drum and excess water can damage both the fabric and the sole structure.
10. Store them carefully
Keep them in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If possible, stuff them with paper to help maintain their original shape for longer.
